Our Facility
We have a spacious, fresh and inviting learning environment, with materials and centers conducive for each age group. Our building is designed with handicapped accessible classrooms and playgroups. A large main room is shared for gross motor and large group activities and active indoor play.
Classrooms are set up to naturally promote cognitive, physical, and social emotional development. Each individual classroom provides large group, small group and individual opportunities which include; play centers, circle and gathering times, snack and lunch, and recess, as well as rest times for full day students. Children move through classrooms investigating, exploring, and experiencing according to age and overall readiness, which is determined through careful observation and assessment of growth and development.
Outdoor Adventure
Our vast outside play area is well equipped and fully fenced in a quiet country setting. There are two main areas, one for preschool and one for school age children in a natural landscape of grass and trees with opportunities for exploration, discovery, and organized activities.
Our school uniquely has a spacious, fully fenced playground which is available for all age groups to enjoy in every season for social and physical growth based activities. This provides a natural outdoor area ready for learning and discovery, with trees, grass, sandboxes and structures. Outside games enhance physical growth and health, as well as social, play, and communication opportunities to foster and develop friendships.
Sterling Nursery School is committed to fostering a joyful, inclusive, and equitable environment where every child, family, and staff member feels a strong sense of belonging. We celebrate the diversity within our community and believe that a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and identities enriches our learning experience for all.
Sterling Nursery School welcomes and creates a safe, accessible, and nurturing space for all families, regardless of their racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic, or family structures. We ensure that every child’s unique identity, as well as the identities of their peers, are respected, valued, and represented in our daily interactions and program environment.
We consistently evaluate and select age-appropriate toys and materials that represent and reflect diverse cultures, abilities, and family structures. Sterling Nursery School is dedicated to providing ongoing training for our staff in cultural competency, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive approaches to best support our diverse family population. We will incorporate opportunities to gain information about and celebrate different cultural holidays and events, understanding that these are vital to building empathy and understanding. We acknowledge the cognitive and social benefits of multilingualism and will support children’s home languages, working with families to ensure their children develop into fully bilingual and biliterate individuals.
Sterling Nursery School regularly seeks input from our families and community to ensure our practices remain inclusive and meeting evolving needs. We are committed to the continuous journey of advancing equity and diversity, striving to create an environment where all children can thrive and reach their full potential.
